Refrigerant Leak Detection
« Back to Glossary Index
A system or device that senses and alerts when refrigerant is leaking from the HVAC refrigerant circuit. Because refrigerant loss reduces system performance and can indicate a fault, many modern mini-splits and heat pumps include leak sensors or circuit boards that monitor pressure or refrigerant presence. If a leak is detected, the system will shut down to prevent damage and alert the user. Some systems simply warn with an error code, while others have built-in detectors near the refrigerant lines.
