Air Filtration System

« Back to Glossary Index

The assembly of filters and air cleaners in an HVAC system that removes dust, pollen, mold spores, pet dander, and other particles from the circulated air. In a home, this usually refers to the central furnace or air handler filters (e.g. pleated or HEPA filters) designed to filter particulates whenever the system runs. A good filtration system improves indoor air quality and protects the HVAC components by trapping contaminants before air is distributed.
