Humidifier
« Back to Glossary Index
An add-on device (sometimes integrated into HVAC ductwork) that adds moisture to the air. Humidifiers pump water vapor or steam into the airflow so that indoor air achieves a higher relative humidity. This is useful in dry climates or wintertime when heated air can become too dry. By raising indoor humidity (to an ideal of approximately 40–50%), a humidifier improves comfort (e.g. less dry throat and skin) and can even make the space feel warmer at the same thermostat setting.
