Inverter Technology (Variable-frequency Drive)
« Back to Glossary Index
A compressor drive technology that adjusts compressor speed to match the cooling/heating demand. Instead of cycling the compressor on and off at full power, an inverter unit can ramp the compressor up or down smoothly. This stepless frequency adjustment allows the system to maintain a steady temperature with greater efficiency and less noise. In practical terms, an inverter heat pump or AC can reduce power draw and prevent temperature swings by running at a low speed once the setpoint is near.
